10 Year Chart

The Top Thirty Hits of the Decade

I actually agree with my favourite radio station's tally!

30 Kings Of Leon - 'Use Somebody'

An instant classic from the Followills' "Only By The Night" album, released last year. Caleb claims he wrote the song in Glasgow after falling out with his siblings (again).

29 Coldplay - 'Viva La Vida'
The title track of Coldplay's 2008 album "Viva La Vida" was produced by the legendary Brian Eno and made number 1 in both the US and UK - a first for the band.

28 Arctic Monkeys - 'Mardy Bum'
Mardy means "whiney" or "whingey" in the Northern vernacular. This album track is taken from the Sheffield band's debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not", from 2006.

27 Muse - 'Time Is Running Out'
From 2003's "Absolution" album, this is the track that broke the band in the US, and broke the UK Top 10.

26 Doves - 'There Goes The Fear'
Wilmslow's Doves recorded this track for their 2002 album "The Last Broadcast". It made number 3 in the charts after the single was released and deleted in the same day.

25 Kasabian - 'Fire'
The lead single from this year's "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum" album, released in June. It's the band's highest charting entry, at Number 3.

24 Arctic Monkeys - 'Fluorescent Adolescent'
The second single from the Monkeys' second album "Favourite Worst Nightmare", released in summer 2007. It made number 5 in the UK charts. It's also the most misspelt song in the voting for this chart.

23 Stereophonics - 'Dakota'
The 'Phonics' biggest hit, making number 1 in the UK charts. The track is taken from their fifth album "Language. Violence. Sex. Other?" It also gave the band some much-needed airplay in the US.

22 The Killers - 'All These Things That I've Done'
Epic track from The Killers' 2004 debut "Hot Fuss", the third track to be released as a single. Made No. 18 in the UK charts.

21 Foo Fighters - The Pretender
The first single from the Foos' album "Echos Silence Patience And Grace". Dave Grohl told Xfm that the song was about "people not getting what they were promised".
The Top Twenty of the Decade:

20 Muse – Supermassive Black Hole'

Taken from Muse's fourth album "Black Holes And Revelations", and released as the lead single in June 2006. It's since featured in the film "Twilight" and the game "Guitar Hero III".

19 Kasabian - 'L.S.F.'

Or "Lost Souls Forever". This live favourite was Kasabian's second single, making Number 10 in August 2004. Mark Ronson covered it!

18 The Libertines - 'Can’t Stand Me Now'

Doherty and Barat's biggest hit, making number 2 in the summer of 2004. Sadly, the song chronicles the breakdown in the two songwriters' relationship, which led to the Libertines' split months later.

17 Coldplay - 'Yellow'

The second single from Chris Martin and co, this song put Coldplay on the map back in June 2000, making an impressive Number 4 in the UK charts. It's taken from their debut album "Parachutes".

16 Elbow - 'Grounds For Divorce'

Taken from the band's Barclaycard Mercury Prize-winning "The Seldom Seen Kid", this made the Top 20 in 2008.

15 Queens Of The Stone Age - 'No One Knows'

Written by Josh Homme and Mark Lanegan, this was the first single from Queens' second album "Songs For The Deaf", and features the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl on drums.

14 Kasabian - 'Club Foot'

From the Leicester band's self-titled 2004 debut, this song is apparenty dedicated to a Czech student who died during student riots in 1969.

13 Muse - 'Plug In Baby'

Taken from the band's second album "Origin Of Symmetry", the single made number 11 in the UK charts. Written by singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy and one of the finest early singles by the group.

12 Franz Ferdinand - 'Take Me Out'

The second single from Glasgow's Franz Ferdinand, which hit number 3 in the UK charts in January 2004. They are the only band in this Top 100 chart to be named after an Austrian Archduke (we think; he was 'taken out' by a Serb terrorist, triggering WW I).

11 The Libertines - 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun'

Based around the songwriting duo of Carl Barat and Pete Doherty, the Libertines released this stand alone single in the summer of 2003.

10 MGMT - 'Kids'

MGMT - formerly "The Management" are Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden and this track had been lurking around since 2005, before being re-recorded two years later for the debut album "Oracular Spectacular".

9 The Killers - 'Somebody Told Me'

The first proper single to be released by The Killers in 2004. Brandon Flowers claims it has a "lot of sexual energy". Good lord.

8 The Strokes - 'Last Nite'

The saviours of guitar rock in the Noughties, New York's The Strokes made a splash in 2001 with this single, taken from their debut EP "The Modern Age".

7 Ian Brown - 'F.E.A.R.'

FEAR is the first single from the former Stone Roses singer's third album "Music Of The Spheres". Each line features the acronym F.E.A.R., which is pretty impressive.

6 The White Stripes - 'Seven Nation Army'

The first White Stripes track to feature bass guitar, this riff was everywhere in 2003. It's the first single from the Detroit duo's breakthrough album 'Elephant'.

5 Elbow - 'One Day Like This'

Spent more weeks in the Top 100 UK chart than any other Elbow single. Second track to be released from the Barclaycard Mercury Music prize winning album "The Seldom Seen Kid"

4 Muse - 'Knights Of Cydonia'

The only track in our Top 100 to feature galloping horses. This epic track closes the Teignmouth trio's 2006 album "Black Holes And Revelations".

Kings Of Leon - 'Sex On Fire'

The Followill brothers' biggest hit to date, it was taken from their fourth album "Only By The Night" in 2008. It was given a chart boost a year after release by being covered by one of the X Factor hopefuls.

Arctic Monkeys - 'I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor'

Not the band's first single, but the one that brought them to international attention in 2006, it's taken from their debut album "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not".

1 The Killers – 'Mr Brightside'

The Killers beat off competition from Arctic Monkeys with over 60% more votes for their 2004 single. It's a bittersweet tale of unrequited love, written by singer Brandon Flowers and guitarist Dave Keuning.
